admin - switching to monthly, Private Lessons deadline extention

Hey guys. It's getting to be that time again. Of course I'm talking about the time when I apologize for not posting the announcement that Theme A is over, and Theme B starts tomorrow, on time. -_-; This has become a regular occurrence, I know. And I'm sorry, and I don't want it to keep happening, so here's what I'm going to do: for at least the next few months, sessions at fanthology will be monthly, rather than bi-monthly. So instead of two admin posts new themes a month, there will only be one. This should give everyone -- including, of course, me -- a little more time to get their stuff together each month.

What that means for this month: Private Lessons are still in session! You have until the end of the month -- September 30, this Sunday -- to post recs for this theme. Trained Killers, the next theme, will begin on Monday, October 1. So start hunting through your book marks for fics that focus on deadly professional killer assassins.

Suggestions for a November theme are very welcome. :D

Private Lessons: Non-animanga [The Persian Boy, DC Comics]

Title: Oromedon's Lessons
Fandom: The Persian Boy by Mary Renault
Location: Chapter One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Eleven
Author: Elfscribe
Author LJ: elfscribe5
Status: Complete
Length: Multi-Chapter
Keywords: Bagoas, Oromedon, Bagoas/Oromedon
Genre: Romance, Angst
Rating: NC-17
Comments: Oromedon arrives to teach Bagoas how to be a proper courtesan and finds he must first help Bagoas overcome his past.
I...I think the best way to convey how incredibly wonderful this fic is is to state that I find it practically impossible to separate it from TPB canon in my mind. One of the reasons I love Mary Renault so much is her gorgeous writing style, and Elfscribe has so perfectly captured that writing style that this fic blends almost seamlessly into TPB. Mary Renault-sama Does Not Write Lemons, but I imagine that if she did, it would be much like this fic. ^_^

Keywords: Superman, Batman, Superman/Batman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Justice League

Private Lessons: Animanga [Naruto, Weiss Kreuz, Final Fantasy VII]

Title: All The Broken Pieces
Fandom: Naruto
Location: fanfiction.net
Author: Princess Tyler Briefs
Author Website: ff.n author page
Status: WIP
Length: Multi-Chapter
Keywords: Kakashi, Iruka, KakaIru
Genre: Romance, Drama, some Angst
Rating: R
Comments: Tsunade bets Asuma that Kakashi can teach Iruka to be a jonin in two months, and both men have their lives suddenly thrown into chaos. Most definitely not a cotton-candy "Oh, sensei! ♥" romance. There's an excellent amount of focus on the actual training and some great actiony bits, with the romance creeping in at a gradual, natural pace.

Title: Express Yourself
Fandom: Weiss Kreuz
Location: Chapter One, Chapter Two, Chapter Three
Author: Mishaela
Author Website: Mish's Fanfiction Archives
Status: Complete
Length: Multi-Chapter
Keywords: Aya (Ran), Yohji, Yohji/Aya
Genre: Romance, very nearly PWP
Rating: NC-17
Comments: A new mission for one of the Weiß boys. Yohji has to teach Aya how to be "sexy" so he can go undercover. When the underlying passion finally wells up, can Yohji resist being caught up in it? Unlike the previous rec, this is unabashed lemon-flavored fluff. But we all need a dose of lemon-flavored cotton-candy fic once in a while. XD

Title: Practice Makes Perfect
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Location: here
Author: Miko no Da
Author Website: Miko no da's Anime Corner
Status: Complete
Length: Oneshot
Keywords: Cloud, Zack, ZxC
Genre: Romance, a bit of Angst
Rating: NC-17
Comments: Cloud never expected to find a friend in Shinra, let alone anything more. This one falls somewhere in between the two extremes exhibited above. It's not pure fluff (a significant amount of training does in fact go on!), but it's not seriously actiony either. Just a cute, sweet, satisfying one-shot. ^_^

admin - new session

The deadline extension for Anything Goes Month is definitely over, so if you meant to post and didn't, save it for next year.

From now until September 15, the theme is Private Lessons. (Why hello there, teacher. *g*)

After a bit of thought, the next theme, due to start September 16, will not be Trained Killer AU, but simply Trained Killer. To qualify, fanfiction must focus on professional killers, either canon or not. The trick is that it is not enough for one or several characters to be killers, recommended fic has to somehow focus on the fact that they are killers.

Anyone have any ideas for October themes?

Historical AU - Bleach

I'm sure you're all sick of me by now. XD; Last one! I swear.

Title: Now when the gods forsake us
Fandom: Bleach
Location: livejournal
Author: bravecows
Author Website: http://thewritegirls.populli.net/afrai
Status: Complete
Length: Oneshot
Keywords: Ichigo, Renji, Rukia
Genre: Ancient Rome AU
Rating: PG
Comments: She swept a last indifferent glance over the boy. It was a mystery, when no tie of blood bound her to her adopted brother, but Rukia had the Kuchiki eyes, of which the family was so justly proud: great, heavy-lidded, thick-lashed eyes, which were violet or dark blue or grey as the whims of light and mood dictated. Though her brother considered her too young for marriage, she had already smitten more than a few men with a single look out of those eyes. Under them, magistrates had trembled and soldiers quivered.

The new slave absorbed the glance, then said, in perfect Latin,

"Have a statue sculpted, it'll take less time."

Stichus' jaw dropped. Rukia's eyes widened.

"Why, you -- " But she recollected herself, and turned to Stichus, ignoring the boy.

"You are certain, Stichus, that he is not a eunuch?" she said sweetly. "He has that look to him, and you know I think the horses do not take kindly to half-men -- they jib, so!"

"You bitch!" howled the boy.

...Yeah.

Band AU - Silver Diamond

Title: Silver Diamond Band AU
Fandom: Silver Diamond
Location: one, two, three
Author LJ: baka_neko
Status: Incomplete
Length: scattershot excerpts
Keywords: Rakan, Chigusa
Genre: Band AU
Rating: PG
Comments: His grandfather smiled tenderly up at Rakan. "You're a wonderful boy, Rakan. I've been in the business for a very long time. The world is waiting for someone like you -- like a flower blooming from a concrete sidewalk. If you decide that this is what you want to do, don't forgot, I've converted to Christianity."

"What?" said Rakan, nonplussed. He had wondered about the priest that had been hurried out before his visit.

"Angels love singing, don't they?" said his grandfather in his own crazy Earth logic. "And a good song always needs an audience. So I'll hear you wherever I'll go."

Apologies to baka_neko for recommending something that was obviously never intended to stand as a polished final work, but...it's Silver Diamond Band AU with Chigusa as a crazy amnesiac professional killer. I HAD TO.

High School AU - Lord of the Rings

Title: School of Rings
Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Location: website
Author: supacat
Author Website: http://supercat.popullus.net
Status: Incomplete
Length: Multi-Chapter
Keywords: Legolas, Aragorn (and Sam and Frodo and Faramir and Boromir, etc.)
Genre: Crack
Rating: R
Comments: Frodo stood with the other first years and began to sing:

Mighty the caverns below the mountain
Pleasant the home beneath the hill
Proud the tower, the winged crown, the fountain
The forest eternal--

"Where are Merry and Pippin?" whispered Sam, under the singing. The two seats beside him were empty. Frodo noticed that Sam was trying to shield the empty seats with his body from the eyes of any passing teachers.

"I haven't seen them. You don't think they're in trouble?" Frodo whispered back.

Around them, the singing continued. The hobbits sang with gusto; this part of assembly was genuinely well-liked by the Shirefolk. Similarly the dwarves roared out the tune. The elves sang with the pure, fluted notes and perfect pitch of choirboys. Among the humans, it was a piecemeal affair. Some of them sang well enough, but the cool groups tended to stand around looking bored.

"They
skipped breakfast," said Sam.
